In South Africa, Cullinan is just stone’s throw away from Pretoria. It’s in the bed of the river that divides two suburbs of the city – the bourgoueoisie on one side, the blue-collar workers on the other side – where an old miner on the eve of retirement finds a diamond the size of a fist. The stone has the potential to boost the entire mining industry of the region or send both suburbs into total chaos. “The River” follows the lives of the Dlaminis and the Mokoenas, two families from different backgrounds that once got along but are now divided by the discovery of the diamond.
